Etsy permits both fully handmade clothing and print-on-demand items, but the rules differ. Handmade garments must be made or designed by you. Print-on-demand sellers must disclose their production partner (e.g., Printful, Printify) and must have designed the artwork or graphic themselves. Simply uploading generic clipart to a print-on-demand service does not meet Etsy's creativity standards.

Clothing listings frequently trigger trademark enforcement. Using brand names like Nike, Disney, or Supreme in titles or tags is prohibited. Fan art and pop culture references also carry copyright risk. If you sell graphic tees, ensure every design is original or properly licensed. Etsy actively processes DMCA takedown requests and repeat offenders face permanent suspension.

Include clear size charts in your listings, especially if your sizing differs from standard US or EU measurements. Fabric composition must be accurately stated. If a garment is 100% cotton, do not list it as a "cotton blend." Misleading material or sizing information leads to returns, negative reviews, and potential policy violations for misrepresentation.

Depending on your market, textile labeling laws may require you to include fiber content, country of origin, and care instructions on a physical label sewn into the garment. While Etsy does not directly enforce these laws, failing to comply can result in legal action from regulatory bodies and customer complaints that affect your shop standing.
